Our story

Not a vacation spot. A family legacy.

In 1884, a young Swedish sawmill man named Gustaf Nordquist came to Minnesota with a trade in his hands. He helped manage the Pine Tree Lumber Company in Little Falls, where the Mississippi carried the pine of the northwoods to the mill. His wife, Hannah, worked in the home of C.A. Lindbergh, and, as the family tells it, the two households became friends. Their children played together.

Then tuberculosis took them both within two years. In the winter before he died, Gustaf wrote a will that put his daughters’ future on paper: everything he had, “divided between them equally.”

His daughter Adina was seven. She was taken in by family friends, and she found her place in the world. Her faith gave her purpose. She loved the woods and the lakes, and she learned to stand on her own.

Her son Bernie grew up on the farm in Freedhem, served his country in World War II and came home to work with his hands. He was a carpenter who spent his life finishing hardwood floors: honest, principled and quick to laugh. I learned beside him. The floor mattered, and so did the family who would live on it.

Bernie’s youngest daughter, my mother, was an artist who painted and filled her garden with ivy. She married a man from a long line of builders. I grew up between the paintbrush and the hammer.

Today, I build and remodel homes up here, and I help families buy and sell some of the most significant lake homes on the Whitefish Chain. I got engaged on these lakes. I got married on these lakes. I own a lake home here, and I run a vacation rental here. Four generations of my family have called this region home.

So when you call Whitefish Property Finder, you’re not hiring someone who sees the lake as a market. A lake home here isn’t a vacation spot. It’s where your family’s story keeps getting written, and it’s an investment that should grow in value and meaning for the next generation.

I know what’s behind the walls, because I build them. I know what the shoreline is worth, because I’ve sold it. And I know what this place means, because my family has been here since the sawmill days.

Your legacy, carefully placed.
